Celem Stanów Zjednoczonych było stworzenie jednolitych, pro zachodnich Niemiec. Na szczęście nie doszło do konferencji pokojowej kończącej wojnę, bo wówczas Amerykanie by zażądali od Polski Dolnego Śląska oraz Pomorza Zachodniego. Mówił o tym sekretarz stanu USA w Stuttgarcie w 1946.
Silesia and other eastern German areas should be under the administration of the Polish state and for such purposes should not be considered as a part of the Soviet zone of occupation in Germany. However, as the Protocol of the Potsdam Conference makes clear, the heads of government did not agree to support at the peace settlement the cession of this particular area.
